Set in the beautiful comminuty of Carstairs, this 18-hole semi-private facility has something for everyone. Challenging greens, wide tree lined fairways and large water hazards add to the character of the course. It is located just 30 minutes North of Calgary.
Description of Role
The Assistant Superintendent is responsible to work closely with the Head Superintendent, and other managers, to provide the best experience possible to our guests. The Assistant Superintendent will coordinate daily operations of all maintenance staff. This includes meeting, or exceeding, our standards for employee satisfaction, guest satisfaction, and financial performance. As the Assistant Superintendent you must lead by example by taking a proactive position to all issues concerning the Turf Care team.
Responsibilities and Duties
Directly supervise staff by carrying out the responsibilities in accordance with the Town of Carstairs policies and procedures. This includes planning, assigning, and performing activities of workers. Mentor and motivate staff in all Turf care duties. This includes equipment operation, irrigation maintenance, and operation and spraying techniques. Assist with budgeting, timesheet approvals, payroll and purchasing. Work with Superintendent to monitor expenses. Maintain open lines of communication with all departments. Communicate effectively with the direct staff regarding daily operations. Monitor equipment daily for proper operation and quality of cut of all turf. Monitor and adjust nightly watering requirements: moisture on greens, tees, fairways and rough. Maintain accurate inventory of all chemical, fertilizers and irrigation parts. Fertilize and spray all areas of the golf course. Attend educational seminars to stay current with the leading technology and information. Provide excellent customer service to guests and members and fellow employees. Involve Superintendent in all communication pertaining to out-of-the-normal circumstances prior to responding. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Desired Experience
Experience and understanding of irrigation concepts, maintenance, and repair. Experience with nutrient and chemical programs, application, and documentation. Ability to quickly detect the dynamics of change applicable to golf course turf. Extensive knowledge of golf. Excellent written and oral communication. Strong customer service and troubleshooting skills. Professional, responsive, and positive work attitude is essential. Post Secondary Degree/Diploma in a Turf program preferred. Minimum of 3 years' work experience in a Golf Course supervisory role (Superintendent or Assistant). Valid Alberta Pesticides License. Valid Driver’s License.
