The Highwood Golf and Country Club was established as a non-profit corporation in August of 1958 located in High River Alberta, 30 minutes South of Calgary. It is wholly owned by shareholders and is a semi-private facility welcoming anyone to play, dine and enjoy social time in a beautiful, friendly setting. The Highwood, as it is locally known, is a 27 hole championship course with practice facilities, driving range, full service restaurant and pro shop. You will experience giant cottonwood trees, lovely ponds with fountains, the beautiful Highwood River and views of the Rocky Mountains.
Description of Role
Highwood Golf and Country Club is seeking an enthusiastic, team-oriented individual with excellent communication and leadership skills to fill our Assistant Superintendent position. The Assistant Superintendent is an integral part of our Grounds Department Management team. Under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent you will work in a hands on / supervisory role to help deliver the maintenance programs and conduct the project work required to provide an unmatched golf experience.
Responsibilities and Duties
* Assist in the planning and administering of the day to day operation of the Turfcare department which includes seasonal staff of over 15. *Assist with coordinating and scheduling the day-to-day operations of the golf course with Grounds Department Leadership team *Hiring, Training, and motivating seasonal staff as well as ensuring Occupational Health and Safety standards and all Club Policies are met. *Daily supervision and skill development of the Turfcare staff. *Daily monitoring of golf course conditions, the irrigation system, and the pump station. *Maintain accurate, detailed records of product applications and inventory. *Conducting cultural practices including fertilizing, topdressing, and chemical applications. * Irrigation repairs needed on the golf course
Desired Experience
• Turf Management Diploma or a Degree • 3-5 Years of Golf Course maintenance experience in a management role. • Valid Drivers Licenses • Valid Pesticide Licenses or the ability to quickly obtain one. • Good communication, documentation and organizational skills • Must strive to be detailed and efficient • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate a diverse group of staff. • Working knowledge of cultural, chemical and irrigation practices. • Understanding of Occupational, Health and Safety Standards. • Willingness to learn and work in a team atmospheres. • Strong work ethic, enthusiastic, and self-motivated.
