Golf & Curling Club Recognized for Environmental Excellence
CANMORE, AB – Canmore Golf
& Curling Club has achieved designation as a "Certified Audubon
Cooperative Sanctuary" through the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program
for Golf Courses. Reid Solodan,
Golf Course Superintendent, led the
effort to obtain sanctuary designation on the property and is being recognized
for Environmental Stewardship by Audubon International. Canmore Golf & Curling Club is one of 19 golf courses in Alberta and
896 in the world to hold the title of Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.
Golf & Curling Club has shown a strong commitment to its environmental
program. They are to be commended for their efforts to provide a sanctuary for
wildlife on the golf course property," said Christine Kane, Executive
Director at Audubon International.
"To reach certification,
a course must demonstrate that they are maintaining a high degree of
environmental quality in a number of areas," explained Kane. These
categories include: Environmental Planning, Wildlife & Habitat Management,
Outreach and Education, Chemical Use Reduction and Safety, Water Conservation,
and Water Quality Management.
The Canmore Golf & Curling Club is proud to
join 18 other golf courses in Alberta to have achieved the Audubon
Certification! “It has been a great learning experience and we will continue to
strive to be environmental stewards within the Bow Valley Corridor” quotes Reid
Solodan. It was a team effort along with Pete Dall who helped gather all data
and submit information, thank you Pete!
